Our Name,
Our Mission
Jenga Upya Tanzania
"Jenga" means to build in our native Swahili. "Upya" means anew. Our name, JUTZ, is a call to action: to Jenga Up our communities and to Jenga Upya our nation.
Founded by members of our diaspora across the globe, the JUTZ Foundation is a direct response to the severe economic and social challenges facing our brothers and sisters at home. We bridge the gap between the global Tanzanian community (as well as friends of Tanzania) and the grassroots heroes working tirelessly on the ground.
About Us
Our Model
Small Businesses
Restaurants and caterers who can prepare and distribute free, nutritious meals.
Community Organizations
Groups caring for children orphaned by recent violence, providing them with food, shelter, and security.
Essential Suppliers
Partnering with organizations to provide critical non-food items, like sanitary pads for women and girls.
Partners
Local Partnership, Global Support:
We believe the most effective and dignified aid empowers local actors. Instead of creating parallel systems, we identify and fund:
Lunch4Breakfast
A local food delivery and catering service providing meals to hospitals, working class homes and abandoned children in the heart of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Since November 6th, they’ve provided over 1,000 free meals!
Kesho Kutwa Yetu
An organization dedicated to emergency relief food distribution across regions in Tanzania such as Arusha, Dar, Mbeya and more for over 200 families affected by post-election violence and food insecurity. They’ve partnered with GHSEN Global Research to organize food distribution events for these families by collecting provisions (rice, beans, cooking oil, etc). With your generosity, we have supported 40 households already!
Know of a local hero? Nominate them.
The heart of JUTZ is our network of grassroots partners. We know that the best solutions come from within the community. If you know of a small business, community organizer, or local group in Tanzania that is providing food or care to those affected by the current crisis, please tell us about them.
We are looking for organizations that:
Are already actively providing free meals or caring for orphaned children.
Have deep roots and trust within their local community.
Operate with transparency and a clear mission.
